AIR QUALITY IN NURSING HOMES: ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS
While it is important to fight against all forms of pollution, both indoors and outdoors, there are places where air quality is even more strategic than elsewhere. These places where fragility reigns and/or hygiene is paramount. This is the case of all medical spaces, but also of the Ehpad where our parents and grandparents live, more or less old and vulnerable. In these establishments, air purification can respond to a large number of daily problems, both for the residents and for the caregivers.
RETIREMENT HOMES: AIR POLLUTED FROM ALL SIDES
The case of the places of reception for old people is particular and it is perhaps one of the most difficult places to treat, so much the sources of pollution are numerous and the stake capital. It is a medical space, a strict hygiene is therefore required, mainly guaranteed by the use of many chemical cleaning products. The people who live in these places are extremely fragile, often suffering from various pathologies. In these conditions, many elements can harm their health and well-being: air pollution is one of them.
The numerous visits each day are a vector of pollution and can bring additional microbes, viruses and allergens. For residents, caregivers and visitors, odor management is essential to comfort and again, it is complicated in these confined spaces. Everything happens in the same place and brings its share of unpleasant odors: meals in the common room, incontinence, but also characteristic and unpleasant odors related to the end of life and diseases.
In this context, even with efficient ventilation, air pollution is massive and the risk of localized cross-infections is high. Invisible and insidious, fine particles have a short-term impact on all these vulnerable people and a long-term impact on all the staff of the Ehpad.
Opening the windows ensures the necessary air circulation, but it can quickly disturb the residents and never solves the problem of pollution and odors. These odors, if not treated immediately, usually end up literally permeating the premises, harming the well-being of the occupants and visitors.
THE PROFESSIONAL AIR PURIFIER TO THE RESCUE OF EHPAD
As we have seen, the Ehpad are closed places that are difficult to manage, given the permanent presence of frail elderly people. However, the installation of professional air purifiers in the rooms and common living spaces can quickly clean up the spaces, discreetly and without any nuisance.
The air is absorbed by the device and with it the fine particles (PM 2.5), allergens, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), gases, molds, viruses, bacteria and odors it contains. The filter layers and specific air treatment technologies are able to eliminate 99.9% of these pollutants. The returned air is perfectly pure, healthy and pleasant, diffused by soft ventilation to the four corners of the room, even on vast surfaces.
